Review your resume and experiences

  • Before talking to any recruiters, go back through your resume and familiarize yourself with everything on there.

  • Be prepared for a recruiter to ask about anything on your resume

Research companies

  • Make a list of the companies you want to talk to before the day of the fair

  • Look up the company’s website, identify which job positions you’re interested in, write down what those positions are looking for in potential candidates.

  • Review the company’s mission and vision. This will help you have an understanding of the company before speaking to recruiters

  • Write down one or two questions about the company in advance

  • Research is your best friend. A recruiter can tell if you know nothing about the company before talking to them

Practice your pitch

  • Book an interview appointment with the Mays Communication Lab (mays.tamu.edu/commlab)

  • Practice what you want to say to a recruiter, and practice talking about your experiences (preferably in front of a real person, like a roommate)

You got this!

  • Pick out your outfit the night before

  • Go to bed early and eat a good breakfast

  • Give yourself enough time to get ready

  • Have some water nearby (but not in view of the camera)

ZOOM ETIQUETTE

  • Try to get camera as straight on as possible; you do not want to be looking down or up into the camera

  • Wear professional attire

  • Have an appropriate background. You do not need to use a zoom background, but make sure your background is a calm and non-distracting color (i.e. a blank wall)

  • Test camera and mic before interviews and chats

  • Eliminate background noises or any other distractions

  • Make sure you have good lighting, recruiters want to actually see you
